EOPYY Coverage for Adult Speech Therapy
How speech therapy for adults is prescribed through EOPYY: who is eligible, number of sessions (up to 48), reimbursement of €15 per session, and the relevant Government Gazettes (ΦΕΚ).
Speech therapy for adults addresses speech, language, voice, communication, and swallowing difficulties that may arise after neurological or other medical conditions. Prescriptions are issued through EOPYY, in accordance with Article 38 of the current EKPY.
The current legal framework
The framework is based on:
- Government Gazette ΦΕΚ B’ 2106/02.05.2025
- the EOPYY speech therapy annexes, including ΦΕΚ B’ 4737/2025
These are regulatory documents that define eligibility and maximum coverage limits. Because the framework can be updated, it is best to consult the official source.
Which adults are eligible for speech therapy?
Speech therapy can be prescribed for adults who present with speech, communication, voice, or swallowing difficulties. Indicatively, this may include cases such as:
- stroke
- aphasia
- dysarthria
- dysphagia
- Parkinson’s disease
- traumatic brain injury
- voice disorders
- cochlear implant
- Tourette syndrome
The cases above are indicative and not restrictive, since approval depends on the medical referral and EOPYY’s therapeutic protocols.
Who issues the medical referral?
The referral is issued by an authorised physician, such as:
- a neurologist
- an ENT (otorhinolaryngologist)
- a physiatrist
- a psychiatrist
How many sessions are adults entitled to?
According to Article 38 of ΦΕΚ B’ 2106/02.05.2025:
- up to 8 speech therapy sessions are granted per month
- for a total period of up to 6 months
That is, the insured person can receive up to 48 sessions in total.
What is the reimbursement amount?
The reimbursement is set at €15 per speech therapy session.
The maximum reimbursement therefore corresponds to:
- up to €120 per month
- and up to €720 in total for the six-month period
